Police Cadet

Get ready for a future career as a Police Officer. You'll assist full-time personnel  throughout the Police Department, such as Front Desk, Communications, Investigations, Special Events (including Mounted & K9), Records, and Fleet Maintenance.
Shadow officers by going on “ride-alongs” or “walk-alongs" and gain invaluable experience by assuming greater responsibilities and working with increasing independence along the way.
Cadets will also be expected to participate in monthly trainings covering a wide range of topics and types of activities.

Community Aide - Central Booking

The Albany Police Department is looking for a Community Aide to assist city management operations.
The Community Aide acts as a liaison between city residents and service providers, facilitating ties and communications between the community and support service providers. In this capacity, the role involves, among others, preparing incident-reports to department personnel, making referrals to appropriate agencies, providing incident logs, and assisting in communicating available assistance to residents.
Moreover, the community aid may take on additional responsibilities, such as assisting in inter-agency coordination and communication, handling telephone inquiries regarding area events, as well as various clerical tasks.

Custodial Worker

This is manual work calling for the efficient performance of building cleaning, groundskeeping and snow removal tasks.  The incumbent performs routine building cleaning and outside ground maintenance tasks.  Cleaning tasks are performed according to a well-established procedure and involve some heavy work requiring physical strength and ability.  This position is distinguished from that of a Cleaner by the heavier nature of the work performed and because of involvement in outside grounds maintenance activities.  The work is performed under the supervision of a higher level custodial employee.  Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class.  The difference between Custodial Worker I and Custodial Worker II is that the Custodial Worker I performs lighter type work.

Program Technician - Automated Traffic Control Unit

This work involves performing moderately complex work assignments with the Albany Police.
This work is highly confidential and performed under the general direction of the Lieutenant or Sergeant in charge, although the incumbent may also report to the Commander of the Detective Office.  
A basic knowledge of the penal law is essential to the retrieval and entry of database information, particularly due to the sharing of computerized files between APD and Federal, State and Local agencies.  
Supervision over others is not typical of this position.

Youth Aide (At-Risk) (NY HELPS Program)

The Youth Aide is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing youth programs that support the Albany Police Department (APD). This position focuses on outreach, case management, and program coordination to engage at-risk youth and foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. The Youth Aide will work closely with APD’s Neighborhood Engagement Unit (NEU), support APD’s Anti-Violence Coordinator, as well as partner organizations, schools, and youth service providers, to ensure effective intervention and engagement strategies.
